OFF THE GRID
To take a screenshot or recording of on your XBOX:
Of what happened:
- Start your game and play as usual.
- When something cool happens and you want to capture it, press the Xbox button to open the guide, then press the X button to grab the last 30 seconds. To make a longer recording (up to the last 2 minutes), press the View button, then choose a duration.
- To capture a screenshot instead, open the guide and press the Y button instead of the X button.
Of what will happen next:
- Start your game. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select Capture & share > Start recording. Depending on your game clip resolution and available storage space, clips can last up to 10 minutes (capturing to internal storage) or 1 hour (capturing to external storage).
- To end your clip, open the guide and press the X button. You'll get notified when your clip is saved.
In 4K:
You need Xbox One X or later consoles. Your TV output resolution must be set to 4K. If your TV has HDR (High Dynamic Range) enabled, your captures will be in HDR as well. If you’re already viewing in 4K HDR, you’ll simply need to change your capture settings:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select Profile & system > Settings.
- Select Preferences > Capture & share, then choose one of the 4K options listed under Game clip resolution.
- Once your capture settings are updated, you're ready to start capturing.
To find your recorded captures:
Select Recent captures and then any capture to see what you can do with it.
Captures made on Xbox consoles get automatically uploaded to the Xbox network. If you’re using the Xbox mobile app, you’ll get notified there when your latest capture is ready to view and share.
You can delete captures from the Xbox network, your console, or both. To turn off automatic uploading from your console, press the Xbox button to open the guide, then go to Profile & system > Settings > Preferences > Capture & share > Automatically upload.
